“Some of my absolute favourite memories from the run didn’t make it into Coasting because they didn’t add anything useful to the story.”

Can you put those into one of your future substack articles please

Really helpful! Trying to write a book but keep putting it off, good to know other people have the same feelings. Pretty certain mine won’t be a big seller like yours 😆, but as long as my parents and friends buy a copy, it’ll be worth it, I think 🙃

Ah honestly, you're speaking to the world's biggest putter-offer. And I felt exactly like that. It's obviously nice that it's sold pretty well but I genuinely think the biggest achievement is just getting the words down, and then even if only your mum reads it that's fine!! (My dad still hasn't read mine. 😂)

Thanks for sharing this Elise. Got your book as a gift from my sister for my birthday a year ago and loved reading it. Of course I think the best story is the one about the cafe in a post office/convenience store on the Roseland. haha. Well done on focussing the book on the story that you wanted to tell-I think that's a great message.

Hey Laurence, so good to hear from you!! That's one of my fave memories from the whole thing (and one of the ones that did make it into the book) - so random! I actually went back to that spot last year for a friend's birthday but didn't make it to the post office/cafe. Thanks so much for coming to join me on that VERY wet day.

Brilliant, that was fascinating. I love seeing the behind the scenes of how a book comes into being.
