Why I love solo adventures
All the things I love about going it alone (the freedom, the headspace, having lunch whenever you want) and a few of the things I don’t.
There’s often an assumption that if you’re doing something by yourself, it must be because you couldn’t find anybody to do it with. But I’d say that at least 80% of my adventures are solo and largely that’s through choice. From long-distance trail runs and days hiking in the mountains to weeks-long trips in my van, I love the freedom of solo travel. It’s also the thing that I get asked about the most, so I wanted to share some advice for anybody who fancies heading out alone but perhaps feels nervous, or isn’t sure where to start.
I said in my welcome post that I had launched a Substack to have a home for all the things I wanted to talk about which were too long for Instagram, but that I couldn’t write a book about. As it turns out, I probably could have written a whole book on solo adventures, so I’m splitting it into three parts:
