Moving to the Lake District
Q+A: deciding where to live, is it doable without a car, how much does it actually rain?
It was about two years ago that I first decided I wanted to move to the Lake District. I’d just spent a week up here with my dad and I remember going home thinking the same thing I did after every visit: why don’t I live here?
I was living in Bristol at the time which I liked but didn’t love. It was a fun place to be with loads going on - but what’s the point of having hundreds of amazing restaurants, coffee shops and pubs within a mile of your front door if you only go to the same three on rotation and go away every weekend to escape the city? I loved the idea of having the mountains on my doorstep and realised that was actually possible. I was in the fortunate (for this purpose) position of having a location independent job and no real ties in terms of kids, mortgage, etc… all the things that make relocating your whole life more complicated.
