How can half the year be gone already?
Excuse the cliche but it really does feel like yesterday that I rang in the new year in a grotty club in New Zealand. On New Year’s Day we ran through the sulphur springs and went to a spa and ate dumplings. Then I blinked, and now it’s the end of June, and by the time another six months has passed it’ll be nearly 2027 and I’ll have a three month old baby.
It’s funny how some years just tick by without much changing at all, and other years your life changes completely, and you mostly don’t have any idea which sort is coming up.
But here we are, halfway through the year, with the longest day already behind us.
This is what June has involved:
A week in Malta with my mum. Grandma’s funeral. Friends visiting. Mostly avoiding the worst of the heatwave because I live in the north and it’s always 10 degrees colder here. Making the most of working at my desk in the spare room before it has to become a nursery. A weekend away in the van, half an hour from home…
