The sun is shining in Kendal today, as I’m writing this. If I turn to my right and look out of the living room window, all I can see is blue. Actually, that’s a lie - I can also see quite a lot of green because a giant ASDA van is parked outside and obscuring my view. But the sky is very definitely only blue. No clouds, no white or grey or black.
I’ve been in London for a couple of days this week as I had a talk booked. If you were a stranger and you asked me what I do for a living I would probably tell you that I’m a writer but the truth is that I make more of my income from public speaking. I don’t mind saying I speak at adventure festivals so much, or schools, but I struggle to explain the talks I give for businesses and at corporate events. I just can’t bring myself to say aloud the words, “I’m a motivational speaker”. Have you ever heard anything so blood-curlingly cringey?
